The Safer Buildings Coalition is gearing up for 2024, and it looks to be one of our most ambitious years ever as we take our mission on the road.
We provide the following to ensure that SBC is going to the right places with the right messages, that we are meeting your organizations’ needs, and that we are able to best interact with the person in your company who we should be in touch with for planning in 2024.
ERCES System Monitoring and Fire Alarm Connections
Are your ERCES to alarm system connections done correctly? Maybe not!
By John Foley, SBC Managing Director
Posted on October 25, 2023
All ERCES must be monitored by the fire alarm system in accordance with the code/standard determined by the AHJ/Fire Code Official. It is important to note the requirements of the National Fire Alarm Code NFPA 72 as well.
Safer Buildings Coalition leadership, staff and workgroup members continue preparing the inaugural SBC Town Hall meeting. We are targeting the first week of December. We will communicate the details and send out formal invites once all the pieces are in place. Do stay tuned.

From the Chief’s Corner: One-Size-Fits-All, But Not for ERCES…
By Chief Alan Perdue (ret.), SBC Executive Director
Posted on October 25, 2023
The idiom one-size-fits-all can be used to describe situations, items, policies, etc. that are intended to apply to a broad range of individuals. The term, as defined by Merriam-Webster, means: “…applying to all cases or individuals without modification.” Of course, one-size-fits-all is not an exact fit for some individuals, nor, in the case of a policy, is it designed for every situation. Through my travels and experiences, I often see folks trying to apply the one-size-fits-all concept to the world of ERCES. Quite frankly: That doesn’t work.
SBC and Industry Events - What's in Store for 2024?
Posted on October 25, 2023
2023 is waning, and the Safer Buildings Coalition is about to start planning the 2024 seminar calendar, which will again take us to cities across the country (and Canada) throughout the year. We will communicate the seminar dates when they become available.
As always, SBC will be in place for several industry events next years. Many more details will follow, but we can tell you that two of the highest-profile entries on our Dance Card will be back next year: IWCE & SBC's Wireless Tech & Policy Summit!
The Texas Fire Marshals Association's Annual Conference is currently underway in San Marcos, TX, and SBC is attending the event as an exhibitor and to be your eyes and ears at this important gathering, featuring more than 350 Fire Marshals and Inspectors from all over TX.
If you're at the conference, do swing by our booth for a chat with Managing Director John Foley. John also has the Complete ERCES Handbook available for you to check out at the booth.
The Codes & Standards Work Group continues to meet monthly with a full agenda. We recently welcomed three new members bringing the total number of active members well into the 60’s!
During our October meeting, Alan Perdue and John Foley provided the group with updates on their and SBC’s activities.

NICET Technician Levels 1 & 2 Exam Prep Training in Charlotte NC, Nov 7 & 8
From ERCES Trainer LTD
Place your company above the competition with NICET IB-PSC certified technicians With the NICET IB-PSC being the only ERCES/ERRCS certification that can be independently validated and is widely accepted by AHJs, it makes sense to pursue this certification for technicians and designers of in-building public safety coverage solutions. NICET has been the standard for fire alarm and fire sprinkler solutions, so it's a natural for IB-PSC solutions as well.
Ensuring a Seamless Transition: Upgrading Your Aging DAS System
From MCA
How to Know When It’s Time to Replace Your Aging DAS
Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) have revolutionized wireless connectivity in various settings, from bustling stadiums to corporate campuses. But just like any technology, DAS systems age over time, impacting performance and potentially increasing long-term costs. Recognizing the signs that it's time for an upgrade is pivotal in maintaining optimal communication and staying ahead of evolving connectivity needs.
ADRF Releases Emergency Power Off (EPO) Switch for its Public Safety Repeaters
From ADRF
Burbank, Calif., August 15, 2023 — Advanced RF Technologies, Inc. (ADRF), the largest pure-play distributed antenna system (DAS) and repeater provider, today announced the release of its new Emergency Power Off (EPO) Switch for public safety repeaters. The user-friendly PSR EPO Switch enables manual cutting and restoration of AC power and DC battery backup to the repeater, whereas most emergency responder communication enhancement systems (ERCES) can only be shut down through a graphical user interference which takes time to access.
When contractors encounter RFPs that include requirements for Emergency Responder Communications Enhancement Systems with a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) for public safety, it is crucial for them to collaborate with experienced DAS integrators such as MCA's In-Building Wireless Solutions (IWS) team. These integrators possess comprehensive knowledge of project requirements and have the capability to meet budget and service-level expectations.
iBwave’s Uplink Output Maps: The Key to Efficient Public Safety Network Planning
From iBwave
In today's digital era, ensuring public safety is of paramount importance. Emergency response teams and public safety organizations rely heavily on robust and reliable network infrastructure to effectively carry out their operations.
This is where iBwave, a leading provider of cutting-edge wireless network design solutions, comes into play. With their innovative technology, iBwave is revolutionizing public safety network design by introducing new uplink output maps, which streamline the entire process and empower organizations to create efficient and resilient networks tailored to their specific needs.
The Right DAS Integration Partner Is Critical To A Successful Installation That Meets Wireless Communication Needs
Selecting a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) integration partner is one of the essential steps in deploying your DAS – and choosing the right one will help to ensure a successful installation that meets your wireless communication needs. With the help of an experienced and knowledgeable integration partner, you can benefit from their technical expertise, regulatory compliance, and project management skills.
2023 Seminar Series Winding Down - Tickets Still Available for our Final Event: Greensboro, NC
9 months. 25 Cities, 2 Countries. It has been another rewarding — and long — season of taking our In-Building Public Safety Communications seminars on the road. As always, it has been a genuine pleasure for SBC leadership to crisscross the country to share this important knowledge and, most importantly, meet old friends and strike up new relationships.
We have just one more event to go before we pack it in for 2023 and start putting together schedule and updated curriculum for the 2024 seminar season.
