Dear Safer Buildings Coalition Members,
Holidays are my favorite time of the year as it gives me time to reflect on the year gone by and start thinking of the year ahead. As I reflect on 2022, one of the blessings for me personally has been to be involved with a group of incredibly dedicated members and colleagues of the Safer Buildings Coalition, who care about our mission of eliminating wireless "Dead Zones." And with the work that this passionate community has done over the last year, we have together considerably advanced the mission of the organization this year. Some of the notable accomplishments of 2022 include:
NEW RESOURCE | In-Building Public Safety Communications Toolkit
Posted on December 22, 2022
The Safer Buildings Coalition today released a new resource for property owners, developers and operators designed to educate about critical in-building public safety communications requirements and best practices. Big thanks to the group of volunteer contributors who shared their expertise and insights that make the content so valuable. The guide is available for download now via our resource page for property stakeholders. Please download, share and spread the word.
In a continued effort to raise awareness and eliminate wireless dead zones within buildings, the Safer Buildings Coalition is pleased to announce the launch of its first ever podcast – The Safe Inside Podcast.
The monthly podcast seeks to serve as the one source of truth for in-building public safety communications. Episodes will feature expert insights and perspectives from systems integrators to first responders on eliminating wireless dead zones in buildings so that critical communications can happen when they're needed most.

For me, the Christmas season is a time of coming together with family, friends, and coworkers. Much of that time is often spent “at the table”, a place where we share food and drink and reflect on the events and activities in past year and begin discussing opportunities for the coming year. During the latter part of December, it's not uncommon for things like business travel and meetings to kind of slow down a little bit which allows us some time for reflection and preparation for the future. During this time of reflection, I found myself thinking about many of the activities we “the Coalition” were blessed to be a part of in 2022 and on the significant impact the Coalition and our members have made in the world of in-building communications.

Ensuring New Construction Passes Fire Inspection
From MCA
International, federal, state, and local building codes tend to have one major thing in common — public safety radios must be able to receive clear and concise signals throughout your entire building. That includes common areas, workspaces, hallways, stairwells, and parking structures. With the myriad of materials used throughout new building construction — both for structural integrity and aesthetic design — radio signal strengths can be quite variable depending upon a persons location within a building and its attached or surrounding facilities.
