SBC Board President, David Adams, PCTEL, reflects on Lori Alhadeff's Wireless Tech & Policy Summit keynote.
I was deeply affected by Lori Alhadeff’s presentation about the critical importance of school safety. This is someone who went through a deep personal tragedy—the death of her daughter Alyssa in a school shooting—and decided to take action. And, in a segment of her keynote that stuck with me in particular, she is asking us to take action.
Planning for the 2025 Safer Buildings Coalition Seminar season gets underway next month. Building on this year's record-breaking program, '25 looks to be one of our most ambitious years ever. We encourage our members to get involved by sponsoring and attending events as we take our mission on the road once again.
Much more information will follow over the next months, but here is an overview of what to expect.
By Chief Alan Perdue (ret.), SBC Executive Director
As first responders, our foremost goal is to protect lives and ensure safety within our communities. In the context of public safety inside buildings, this objective highlights the importance of Community Risk Protection and the Safer Buildings Coalition’s call-to-action: “9-1-1 Inside.” I encourage you to join our movement to make buildings safer for everyone!
We are nearing the end of the 2024 Safer Buildings Coalition Feel Safe Inside Seminar Series. Sponsorship slots are still available for several events, and tickets are currently on sale for 10 cities.
Attending, exhibiting at, even sponsoring, a State or National Fire Marshal event this year? If so, we invite you to join our special ERCES Handbook Sponsorship Program, which allows SBC members to purchase one or more boxes of books (eight books per box) at a deep discount, affix their own labels and hand out the book to local AHJs and Radio System Staff.
The Safer Buildings Coalition Member Advocacy Work Group met earlier this month. The team discussed the shift of the Member Advocacy Work Group to becoming a focus group. The work group members also explored the enhancement of 9-1-1 services, the performance issues in the public safety land mobile radio space, and the expansion of the Safer Buildings Coalition team, with a focus on school safety.
The Safer Buildings Coalition continues to grow, with more than 200 member organizations across several categories. We value each and every member, and it’s our pleasure to introduce you to the most recent addition to our member base: NextNav & Southwest Towers.
MARTIN COUNTY, FL — August 13, 2024 — Advanced RF Technologies, Inc. (ADRF), the largest pure-play distributed antenna system (DAS) and repeater provider for 25 years, and Communications International (Ci), a systems integrator specializing in the design and implementation of critical communications networks, today announced they have partnered with Martin County School District (MCSD) in Florida to bring ubiquitous public safety and LTE connectivity to first responders, faculty, and students at South Fork High School and Crystal Lake Elementary.
When disaster strikes in the form of a fire engulfing a skyscraper, a school, or a residential complex, the effectiveness of the response depends crucially on seamless communication. The scene is a flurry of activity: fire departments charge into action, police officers cordon off areas and manage evacuation routes, while EMS personnel prepare to treat everything from smoke inhalation to severe burns. In these critical moments, the difference between life and death can hinge on the ability to communicate clearly and quickly within challenging environments.
