NASFM 2023 Recap – Getting the ERCES Handbook into Fire Marshals’ Hands
State Fire Marshals from 42 States convene in Wilmington NC and hear SBC Message
Posted on August 24, 2023
State Fire Marshals, their staff, and members of the fire and life-safety industry descended on Wilmington NC from July 31 to Aug 2 to attend the 33rd Annual Fire Prevention and Safety Symposium.
The Safer Buildings Coalition was there armed with ERCES Handbooks and important messages: adopt and enforce ERCES codes and standards, coordinate with Frequency License Holders, increase competency for code officials and industry, and require NICET In-Building Public Safety Communications (IB-PSC) Certification.
It is with profoundly heavy hearts, and a tremendous sense of gratitude, that we say goodbye and pay tribute to our Coalition brother Jason Boring. Jason passed unexpectedly in late July.
Jason joined the SBC cause in June of 2018, and has been a constant collaborator with the SBC team since then. Jason was responsible for developing, innovating, and maintaining SBC’s IT infrastructure and the many valuable tools and applications our members and team rely upon every day.

Imagine living in a society or world where there are no rules or regulations. Then imagine trying to conduct a sporting event— or a technical installation like, say, the installation of an ERCES — in such an anarchic environment. Utter chaos and mayhem would make it extremely difficult to have any kind of logical order or principles.
Save the Date: First-Ever SBC Town Hall to Take Place October 5th
Posted on August 24, 2023
We, at the Coalition, have long sought to create an engaging forum for our members to interact with SBC leadership – and each other – receive updates on SBC work group activities and, importantly, to ask questions and receive answers directly from SBC leadership. With that, it is our great pleasure to introduce the inaugural Safer Buildings Coalition Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, October 5th at 4-5:30 PM ET.
The 2023 SBC seminar series is on the home stretch. In late summer and through the fall, our team of instructors will continue to traverse the country to educate audiences.
